Is the Stability Fund is geographically limited? When will you fund projects in my area?
The Somalia Stability Fund is not limited to a specific area but does prioritize newly liberated areas and areas where we have identified an investment need. One of the Somalia Stability Fund’s key principles is local ownership. We finance a wide array of investees from Somali and international non-profit organizations to private enterprises and financial institutions.
We currently support peace and stability initiatives across 40 locations throughout Somalia. We continuously review and adjust our portfolio based on information from our fund management team, donors, regional administrations and the Federal Government of Somalia. We are a humanitarian organisation working in Somalia. Can you help us?
The Stability Fund finances investments that support representative and responsive Somali governance, as well as the mitigation and resolution of conflict. We are able to invest in any innovative initiative that can make a significant contribution to our objectives and principles. Humanitarian initiatives, while a crucial part of Somalia’s development, do not meet this conditions in our view.
We are a Somali organisation working on peace and stability projects in Somalia. Can you fund our project?
The Stability Fund invests in variety of sectors which support representative and responsive Somali governance, as well as the mitigation and resolution of conflict. As a donor-funded organisation, we have a lot of rules around if and how we can invest. These include the need for objective analysis of what to fund, and open and competitive processes to identify credible partners. Read for more information (http://www.stabilityfund.so/apply)
Do you work with the Federal Government of Somalia?
The Stability Fund exists to support local governance and help mitigate conflict. We consult with the Federal Government of Somalia on our investment strategy and approach and support the Ministry of Interior & Federalism and the Prime Minister’s Office.
How do you assess the performance of your investments?
Somalia Stability Fund Investment Managers regularly appraise investment performance and are at the core of our investment management processes. They engage with our investees on a day-to-day basis, conduct field visits, validate investee reporting, and generate reports for the Fund Manager. Their work is supplemented through our partnerships with Shaqadoon – who manages an SMS beneficiary feedback system, and the RAADE Group – who conduct ad-hoc outcome and impact evaluations of our portfolio. Furthermore, IBTCI is engaged by DfID as a third party monitoring agency to conduct ad-hoc verification activities.
We are an international organisation wanting to apply for a call for concept note, are we eligible?
All organizations are welcome to apply but we will always look to work with Somali organizations wherever possible. This does not preclude having international organizations in the consortium, though the consortium must thoroughly detail roles and responsibilities in a sufficient manner so as to demonstrate that financing benefits accrue to the lead applicant.
We have submitted a concept note and not gotten any updates, can we get a feedback?
Due to the volume of applications the Somalia Stability Fund receives, we do not typically notify applicants who have not progressed to the next phase of our investment selection process. This is indicated in the concept note document published by the Fund. We will, however, be issuing several calls in future.
