Much is made of the Stability Fund’s support to peace building and state building through political processes, such as the ongoing negotiations to establish a new federal state in the central regions. But while Somali politics moves onwards and upwards, it is important not to be distracted from the other important pathways to peace in Somalia. Indeed, for many people it is not the politics that matters most for creating peace, but the society they live in, the culture they are part of, and the relationships they have with their neighbours. That is why this edition of the Stability Fund newsletter is a little bit different, and concentrates on some of our social and cultural work. Whether it is reconciliation after a conflict, sport, or promoting the proud Somali culture, this is all about one simple concept – bringing people together to share something. We hope the politics will take note.
